SPEAKERS

Rod Hoffman is CEO and co-founder of S&H Consulting, a management consulting firm in Evergreen, Colorado. He serves as CEO, working with firms to develop business strategies for the future. Rod is a Colorado PE and holds a MS in Geotechnical Engineering from Iowa State University.

Rod has over 24 years of expertise ranging from designing small municipal projects to large international airport work. Prior to starting S&H, Rod was Senior Vice President and Director of Strategic Planning and Acquisitions for HDR, an A/E consulting firm with over 8,000 staff worldwide. Rod serves as a faculty member for the Senior Executive Institute, a curriculum for developing leaders in the consulting industry. He has served on the ACEC National Executive Committee as Senior Vice Chair, is an ACEC Fellow, and past Chair of the Institute for Business Management committee. He has been active in ACEC since 1991, serving in Colorado as President and chair of numerous committees.

Barb Smith, President and founder of S & H Consulting LLC, brings over 20 years of extensive organizational development, strategic planning and training experience to her clients.

Barb has worked as both an internal and external consultant. While Manager of Organizational Change for a joint venture of Shell and Texaco, Barb served on and coached the executive leadership team, facilitating the creation of new strategies, structures and culture. Prior to that, as a training and human resources manager and professional she worked with groups of 5 to 500 to design and present hundreds of successful leadership programs; professional and technical training programs; meetings, conferences and retreats; and organizational effectiveness projects.

In her current work, Barb collaborates with leaders of diverse organizations to uncover issues and implement solutions in the areas of strategic planning, change management, leadership development, performance improvement and training, and process improvement.

Barb is the Past President for the American Society of Training and Development-Rocky Mountain chapter, as well as an active member of the International Society of Performance Improvement and Society for Human Resource Management.

Geordie Aitken is a faculty member of ACEC’s Senior Executives Institute. He has co-taught the Leadership/Personal Mastery session for SEI for the past nine years, and consults to AE firms throughout the country. Geordie is personally well-versed in the challenges of leadership development and succession, having worked with his father David Aitken, for over a decade in their family-based consultancy. He specializes in assisting AE firms successfully build leadership capacity in the up and coming generations, and in (re)training senior leaders for new roles as mentors and coaches.

Geordie’s educational background is in rhetoric and humanistic psychology, with certification in neuro-linguistic programming. His clients have included small to mid-sized AE firms throughout the US and Canada, including Walter P Moore, Kleinfelder, David Evans, and Langan Engineering. International organizations from as far away as Indonesia and the Middle East have brought Geordie in to facilitate crucial meetings. Everywhere, clients agree Geordie’s style is disarming, dynamic and masterful in delivering desired results.

Leadership Game Changers: What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

Presenters: Rod Hoffman, P.E., Barb Smith, S & H Consulting Associates and Geordie Aitken, Aitken Leadership Group

The major influence on the success of a firm is the quality of its leadership. This session enables participants to build skills in areas of leadership that separate good leaders from great. These skills include developing people, leading multi-generations, managing performance for results, strategic thinking, shifting cultures, and leading change. In this highly interactive session, participants will have the opportunity to learn, practice and apply new tools to their own careers and firms.

SATURDAY, September 15

After breakfast, adjourn to separate business meetings for ACEC Washington and ACEC Oregon members. The business meetings are followed by roundtable discussions for all on current issues.
